The Japanese market might be declining in terms of importance for the worldwide gaming industry, but the fact that the 3DS handheld has managed to sell more than 113,000 units during a seven-day period remains impressive, especially given the performance of the rest of the hardware lineup that it offered in the territory.

The Nintendo device has received a radical makeover recently and its numbers are dropping fast when compared to its previous performance, but they remain very high, showing that the company can perform very well despite the fact that the Wii U’s results are not up to expectations.

Second place in the hardware chart for the week that ended on October 19 belongs to the PlayStation Vita handheld from Sony, which has posted a slight increase and has managed to sell 9,391 devices.

The last position on the podium belongs to the PlayStation 4, which delivered 8,046 consoles to its fans, according to Media Create data quoted by NeoGAF, but the number represents a decline of more than 3,000 units when compared to the previous seven-day period.

The Wii U has previously showed signs of recovery but is again down this week and has only managed to deliver 5,293 units to its customer base, only slightly more than the older PS3.

The Xbox One might be underperforming all over the world, but in Japan its situation can be described as dire after it has only managed to get 728 consoles to gamers in one week.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is better than Super Smash Bros.

The domination of the 3DS is also helped by the high-profile video games that are offered in Japan, with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate from Capcom managing to take the number one position in the software chart with weekly sales of 327,212 units, a big decline over the previous week but enough to make it the leader.

Second place belongs to Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS from Nintendo, with 53,075 copies moved to fans, while in third place Media Create places Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke from Level 5.

The rest of the top ten in Japan includes: Chaos Ring III: Prequel Trilogy from Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts HD II.5 ReMIX from the same publisher, FIFA 15 by Electronic Arts, Amnesia Later × Crowd: V Edition from Idea Factory, Mario Kart 8 by Nintendo, Legend Of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II and Dragon Quest X.
