Halo 2's theme song is one of the franchise's most memorable pieces of music, and now an incredible behind-the-scenes video shows how it was recorded.

Halo composer Marty O'Donnell recently posted a very cool video that shows some of the recording sessions with guitarists Steve Vai and Nile Rodgers. The 27-minute video is worth a watch from end-to-end for any Halo fan, but you can skip to around 9 minutes to watch Vai shred the theme music moment memorable riff. Behold:

O'Donnell worked on the Halo franchise while at Bungie and stayed on board to write the music for Destiny. He was fired from Bungie in 2014, later suing Bungie and eventually prevailing against the studio, getting hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He's now working alongside Halo and Destiny designer Jaime Griesemer at a new studio Highwire Games. The independent outfit's first game is the PlayStation VR title Golem.
