Ubisoft just posted the launch trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Origins on YouTube, and it’s a gorgeous trailer. With a release in just a few days, anticipation for the sequel has reached a fever pitch. Normally an annual franchise, Ubisoft skipped a main Assassin’s Creed release in 2016 to address fan complaints about the series and revamp the standard formula.

As the name implies, Assassin’s Creed: Origins takes you back to the beginning of the Assassin Order, as well as the founding of the Templars, the series’ long running antagonists. The standard Assassin’s Creed formula has a new coat of paint, including a new RPG leveling system, the removal of the mini-map, and the ability to control an eagle flying overhead to scout targets.

The Origins launch trailer hits all the major notes. It briefly showcases the story, some gameplay, and gives you a glimpse into Ancient Egypt, the new setting. We get a glimpse of some of the things we can expect to do in an open world Egypt, such as riding chariots, scaling the Sphinx, naval combat, and pre-order bonuses. Yes, this is a Ubisoft game after all.

This is just a launch trailer however, so it’s more about setting the mood for the game rather than informing players about new gameplay features. As a result, there isn’t any actual gameplay in sight here. Rather, it’s more a series of cutscenes and scripted events showing what the gameplay will be like. Still, it does a good job of setting up Origins and getting you hyped for not only the game, but where the franchise will go from here.

This is a big deal for Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed. The franchises’ name has been dragged through the mud lately, with the failure of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, the box office bomb of the Assassin’s Creed movie, and people are growing tired of Ubisoft’s reliance on loot boxes, microtransactions, and pre-order bonuses. After publicly admitting they didn’t like where the franchise was heading and vowing to take a year off to fix the issues, Origins needs to bring a breath of fresh air to the franchise. It’s going to have to compete with a slate of huge releases as well, including Call of Duty: World War II, Star Wars Battlefront II, Super Mario Odyssey, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to name a few.

Still, after taking 2016 off for new game releases, it’s hard to imagine Origins won’t sell like hot cakes. With a new setting and the return of naval combat, a fan favorite, Assassin’s Creed: Origins will probably do just fine. And with promised free content in the future, like a combat free museum mode, fans will have plenty to look forward.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins arrives this Friday, October 27 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Xbox One X enhanced version will be available November 7.
