Here's Why Red Dead 2 Online's Mugshots Include Your Hands
One of the first things you do in Red Dead Online, the multiplayer mode for Red Dead Redemption 2, is create a character and snap a mugshot when you're finished.
You might think it's odd that your character displays their hands so prominently in the mugshot, but that is in fact rooted in history. It was a common in the late 1800s to take photographs, or mugshots, of criminals with their hands in front of their bodies so authorities could easily identify distinguishing features such as cuts, tattoos, and other elements, according to Mashable. Police also had criminals pose next to a mirror so that their full face and profile are captured in the same image. Red Dead Online does this, too, in a further bid toward historical accuracy.
Red Dead Online is available now for Ultimate Edition owners, and it'll launch November 28 for people who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on launch day (October 26). Those who played the game October 27-29 will get in on November 29, while everyone can start playing Red Dead Online on November 30. The online mode is available as part of a beta, so you can and should expect a number of issues to flare up during the early play period.
Red Dead Online also features a battle royale mode called Make It Count, while microtransactions in the game come in the form of gold bars (which you can't buy yet). Keep checking back with GameSpot for lots more on Red Dead Online in the days and weeks to come.
