Here's The Latest on Bloodborne 2 From Miyazaki
Video game director and head of FromSoftware Hidetaka Miyazaki recently provided an update about the possibility of Bloodborne 2, the potential sequel to the original Bloodborne video game. Bloodborne is an action role playing game that initially released in 2015. In the title, the player takes on the role of the Hunter who must make his way through the gothic city of Yharnam, a place where a horrible disease of the blood plagues the residents. The Hunter must not only fight his way through the monsters of the city, but find out what started the plague and try to stop it.
Bloodborne was universally acclaimed by both critics and players alike, although some players complained that the game was way too hard. Several video game websites named Bloodborne the Game of the Year for 2015, while it went on to surpass Sony's expectations for sales. It also won numerous awards from the video gaming industry. Now, two years later, fans are still demanding a sequel and Miyazaki has offered some insight into what - if anything - those gamers can expect.
Although rumors initially pointed to Bloodborne 2 as the latest project by FromSoftware, the company later revealed that it's working on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice instead. Interestingly enough, though, the studio's PS VR game Deracine included several Bloodborne Easter eggs, which made many fans believe that Bloodborne 2 was coming sooner rather than later. Miyazaki told the Spanish language website Xataka, though, that just wasn't the case. He said:
Okay, yes. Actually, this is exactly the conversation that my team and I had. It’s the kind of conversation we keep during development, because there are Easter eggs … However … The easter egg in itself is not indicative that we are going to launch Bloodborne 2. I’m not in a position to talk about a possible release of Bloodborne 2 However, we love Bloodborne; that’s why this easter egg has aroused so much curiosity. But, I repeat, it’s not a Bloodborne 2 notice. It’s just something that we explored among ourselves, because we love Bloodborne.
Meanwhile, FromSoftware will focus its efforts on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which releases in March 2019. That title puts players in the role of a "one-armed wolf," a disfigured warrior who has fallen from grace. This warrior must go after an enemy who has kidnapped a young lord descended from an ancient bloodline. That title will be unlike other games by the developer and will have no role playing elements. Instead, gameplay will focus on stealth and combat. There will also be no multiplayer.
After next year's release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, though, the company's schedule should free up enough to allow it time to begin work on Bloodborne 2. With new consoles potentially arriving in 2020, it is possible that the sequel will become a next-generation title. Although the game is not currently under development, it wouldn't make sense to scrap the franchise entirely, at least after considering its surprising success.
