Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee may pare the series' sprawling bestiary back to only the original 151 monsters (plus their Alolan variants), but there is one entirely new Pokemon that players will be able to catch in the upcoming games: the strange Meltan. The Pokemon Company had previously teased that the way to acquire Meltan involved linking Let's Go with Pokemon Go, but now we know exactly how you can get your hands on one.

According to The Pokemon Company, the first step to catching Meltan is to send a Pokemon from the mobile game over to the Switch titles. After transferring a Gen 1 monster from Pokemon Go to Let's Go, you'll receive a special item called a Mystery Box in Pokemon Go. Unlike most other items you can get in the game, the Mystery Box is reusable; you'll be able to activate it every so often, which in turn will give you a window of opportunity to capture Meltan in Pokemon Go. You'll then be able to transfer the Mythical Pokemon over to the Let's Go titles and add it to your collection there.

"Meltan will begin to appear once a Mystery Box is opened in Pokemon Go, but be careful—they'll only appear for the player that opened the Mystery Box," The Pokemon Company says on its website. "Touch a Meltan you see on the field map, and then try to catch it with a Poke Ball!" Once the Mystery Box closes, you'll need to wait a certain amount of time and then transfer another Pokemon to Let's Go in order for it to open again.

As previously mentioned, you'll only be able to transfer the original 151 Pokemon--as well as their Alolan forms--from Pokemon Go to Let's Go, and the process is a one-way transfer; any monsters you send to the Switch games cannot be returned to Pokemon Go. Those that you do transfer will end up in the Go Park, a new facility that replaces the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. As we recently learned, the Go Park is made up of 20 parks, each of which can hold 50 Pokemon, so you can store up to 1,000 monsters in total at the facility.

The Go Park isn't only good for bringing your favorite monsters over from Pokemon Go; if you transfer 25 of the same species, you'll be able to play a minigame in an area of the Go Park called the Play Yard. This game involves leading all of the Pokemon to the goal before time runs out; if you manage to clear it, you'll be rewarded with Candies, which you can feed to Pokemon to power up their stats.

In addition to the above method, the official Pokemon website teases that players will be able to obtain Meltan in Pokemon Go through a new Special Research questline. The Pokemon Company hasn't shared any further details as to what this new Special Research quest will entail, but it will be available sometime this winter.

Pokemon fans got their first glimpse at Meltan last month. Immediately following September's Community Day event, swarms of Ditto masquerading as the new Mythical Pokemon appeared in the wild for precisely 30 minutes, only to disappear just as suddenly. Soon after that, The Pokemon Company formally unveiled the first details about Meltan. Among other things, we learned that it's a pure Steel-type Pokemon, and that it may possibly have an evolved form.

Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee launch for Switch on November 16. The games will release alongside the Poke Ball Plus, a Poke Ball-shaped accessory that's compatible with both the Switch games and Pokemon Go. Nintendo is also releasing Pokemon: Let's Go Switch bundles on that same day, which include a digital copy of the game along with the aforementioned Poke Ball Plus, special yellow and brown Joy-Cons, and a Switch dock emblazoned with Pikachu and Eevee designs.
