After the surprise confirmation of Halo Wars 2 during Microsoft's Gamescom 2015 press event, the corporation shares a few more details about the upcoming real-time strategy experience, pledging to deliver great gameplay and a compelling story onto the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

The original Halo Wars title promised to achieve the tough task of translating the real-time strategy genre, one that's been exclusive to PC for quite some time, onto consoles, in the form of the Xbox 360. Unfortunately for fans of the genre and of the actual series, the title didn't live up to expectations.

Even so, after quite some time since the original title's release, Microsoft and 343 Industries confirmed this week that they've partnered up with Total War franchise creator Creative Assembly to work on Halo Wars 2.

More details touch upon the story and gameplay

Now, as part of a special post on the Xbox Wire, Microsoft confirms a few more details about Halo Wars 2 and how it will impress fans of the genre, both those who played the original as well as those who focused only on the shooter titles.

More specifically, the strategy title promises to blend fast-paced action with massive battles as well as actual RTS mechanics. An all-new Halo story that's a secret, at least for now, is also included, so fans of the long running series shouldn't miss out on it, even if they've mostly been treated to shooters over the years.

Besides a "robust, story-driven campaign," Halo Wars 2 also promises multiplayer action that expands on the Halo universe. It's unclear just what type of modes, besides a standard Skirmish one, are included, or whether or not PC and Xbox One users can interact with each other via cross-platform play.

Expect to hear and see more about Halo Wars 2 as we get closer to 2016. The actual title is currently scheduled to appear in the fall season of next year on both the Xbox One as well as on Windows 10 PCs.
