The upcoming free-to-play, open-world title Genshin Impact may be one of the biggest titles to drop this month, thanks to its highly animated style and outside inspirations. However, thanks to a new statement from miHoYo may mean that while Genshin Impact was announced for PS4 with Mobile and PC versions also releasing at the same time, the title may be making its way to a next-gen console as well.

In an interview with Game Rant, miHoYo commented on the prospect of porting Genshin Impact over to new consoles after the initial Mobile, PC, and PS4 release. A release on the Nintendo Switch has already been announced, with this separate version not having an official release date at the time of this writing.

The newest reveal comes from a comment on a question about possibly porting Genshin Impact's open-world to other systems, such as the Xbox One or next-gen consoles. In response, miHoYo confirmed that there are plans to take the game to next-gen consoles in the future, and that a full announcement will be on the way when those plans get closer to something more tangible. From the way the miHoYo representative responded, it would seem as though the PS5 will more than likely be the only next-gen console players will see the game come to.

According to the same response, however, it seems as though there are no plans to release Genshin Impact on Xbox consoles, likely meaning neither Xbox One nor Xbox Series X/S will be seeing the game any time soon. That does leave Xbox as the only major platform that the game won't be coming to after the game launches, with the Switch and PC versions having already stopped it from being a "PS4 exclusive." It may be possible that if the game is successful on other platforms that it may eventually come to Microsoft's system, but players shouldn't count on that to be a certainty.

While Genshin Impact's early trailers brought on a level of controversy, especially with its initial Breath of the Wild comparisons, the game underneath the art style seems to be able to stand on its own fairly well. So, while the miHoYo's latest title won't be coming to Xbox, it will still be available to the majority of players thanks to the Mobile, PC, PS4, and planned Switch releases. The addition of a next-gen release would just be an added bonus for early customers at this point, bringing the massive open world to the lightning speed and power of the upcoming PS5.

Genshin Impact is set to release on September 28th, 2020, for Mobile, PC, and PS4, with a Switch version planned for a later release.
