The Coalition and Microsoft want to make the coming Gears of War 4 the core of a new trilogy that will satisfy long-time fans of the franchise that was powered by Marcus Fenix while integrating some new ideas and characters.

According to the studio, which has been talking about the shooter with Game Informer, the plan is to enlarge the universe while keeping some of the landmarks that have defined the story so far, such as the special weapons that characters use and the places where the biggest battles took place.
The idea of focusing on JD Fenix, son of Marcus, was embraced after The Coalition decided to show how a new generation that lived on Sera after the events of Gears of War 3 was dealing with the decisions that their father made to save the planet.
The entire story of the new title takes place over the course of 24 hours and sees the protagonist and two buddies explore a mysterious area where they find a new enemy called The Swarm, and the trio does not have protection from the GOG to take action against it.
Gears of War 4 will reference the first title in the series, which was a huge success on the Xbox 360, and will make survival one of the most important elements of the gameplay.
Gears of War is preparing for a new trilogy For Rod Fergusson, who worked at Epic Games for the first three installments and returned to lead the Coalition team, the plan is to create more games that further explore his new universe.
He adds, "When you're dealing with a game type where the one interaction you have with the world is with what you shoot, it makes it really hard to tell the heartfelt story. Probably The Last of Us is the closest we've come to accomplishing that. I'm not sitting here saying we're trying to be the be all and end all of storytelling."
His team aims to put together interesting characters and a world that has been transformed but also remains recognizable.
Gears of War 4 will get a full launch in the fall of this year, and a beta period will be used to test both infrastructure and core gameplay features in April.
According to the developers, they are planning to deliver a 1080p and 30 frames per second resolution in the campaign, with a boost to 60 FPS in multiplayer, offering a showcase for what the Xbox One can create.
