GameStop COO, Tony Bartel has commented on the recent rash of rumours about new or upgraded consoles from PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo, saying new hardware launches "seem imminent".
As reported by Gamespot, Bartel made the comments at yesterday's GameStop Investor/Analyst Day, explaining that the company was not fully accounting for potential new consoles or VR hardware in its presentation:
"Although we have not modeled extensive growth for new innovation in this presentation, we are very pleased to see the introduction of technology like virtual reality and rumored new console launches, some of which seem imminent."
When pressed on whether the comment regarded Nintendo's NX or something else, a GameStop executive said, "as usual, we know more than we can share".
However, a slide in the presentation made another allusion to the release of multiple new consoles, positing $15 billion in sales over the next two years:
Each major console developer has been the subject of rumours in recent months. FCC Filings suggest the possibility of both an upgraded Xbox One and possible future Xbox console, sources are suggesting a "PS4.5" will be announced before October, and multiple rumours about the Nintendo NX have been swirling for several months.
