We’ve escaped July, the quietest month in the gaming calendar in one piece, it’s okay everyone, we did it. Now it’s time to move onto greener pastures, and this August there are a few excellent releases that will satiate the appetite as we wild up to the crazy time of the year once again. Without further ado, here are the Games of August 2014.

Please note that the specified release dates are the current dates listed for Australia, but are subject to change at the game publisher’s discretion.

Tales of Xillia 2

JRPG fans get their fix this August with the highly anticipated Tales of Xillia 2. The first title for the PS3 was a sleeper hit, certainly continuing on in the rich vein of form the series is presently enjoying. Like its predecessor, the game is coming exclusively to the PS3 and will be laced with 60+ hours of incredible storytelling and gameplay. Expect Tales of Xillia 2 to be arriving on August 21st.ToX2-Combat-Trailer

Two of the grittiest, dirtiest and most unrelenting shooters of the last generation of consoles were the Metro games. Metro: 2033 kicked it all off to mild applause but Metro: Last Light took the praise up another gear becoming one of the acclaimed shooters of 2013. Now, revamped for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, Redux looks to introduce the games to a whole new crowd starved for things to shoot at. Expect Metro Redux on shelves August 28th.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition

The Ultimate Diablo III experience is finally upon us. Diablo III released in 2012 to mixed reviews, in 2013 the console (PS3, Xbox 360) version released to greater praise thanks to some smart changes to the game, and on August 19 the Ultimate Evil Edition releases. Including the main game, the Reaper of Souls expansion and more loot than you can handle, look out for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition when it launches on August

Risen 3 is one that may slip under your radar if you’re not careful. A classic RPG developed by creators of both Risen and the Gothic series, Risen 3: Titan Lords returns to the series’ roots with classic RPG gameplay and choices that drastically shift the course of the story. Risen 3: Titan Lords will be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 14th.

Madden NFL 15

What’s another year without another Madden game. Boasting improved AI and hopefully improved visuals, Madden NFL 15 looks to further improve upon the positive start that was last year’s Madden 25 (for its 25th year). Look out for Madden NFL on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One when it releases on August 28th for another round of bone crunching tackles.Madden-15-Cover
The Swapper

One of the indie darlings of 2013, The Swapper is one of the smartest and most creative puzzle games we’ve seen in quite some time. Now, nearly a year after it first released for PC gamers, Playstation owners will get to experience the fun and sheer challenge of this superb puzzler. The game will be available on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita digitally from August 7th.

inFAMOUS: First Light

Nope, we’ve not had enough of the superhuman antics of the inFAMOUS franchise either. Though unlike in the March release inFAMOUS: Second Son, we won’t be returning to the shoes of Delsin Rowe but rather we’ll be playing as Fetch, the young colourfully haired, Neon wielding supergirl from Second Son. This is a completely standalone download, so don’t fret if you do not have Second Son. The game will be available to download exclusively for the PS4 on August 28th.originalSo there you have it. Gaming releases are on the increase again as we roll along towards the 2014 holiday season. There’s a wide spread here for fans of all genres and owners of all consoles, and if none of these tickle your fancy, well then be sure to take a closer look at these and perhaps broaden your horizons a bit. Have a great month in gaming!
