Developer Gaijin Games has announced a release date for Tharsis, a turn-based mission to Mars strategy game.

According to the PlayStation Blog, Tharsis will launch on January 12, 2016 on PC and PlayStation 4.

Tharsis is a strategy game with board game roots as the original prototype was design with “dice, paper, and lots of love,” said Gaijin Games, best known for the Bit.Trip series, co-founder Mike Roush. The studios’ goals were to make a game on an “engaging level” and “unlike anything else on the market”.

Judging by the trailer, players will be forced to roll the dice and make hard decisions to keep the ship and the crew operating, such as cannibalizing the crew when food supplies are low. While it isn't clear if players will find things like water on Mars, they will be investigating "a mysterious signal emanating from the red planet."

Tharsis follows up Gaijin Games other space-related release Laserlife, an “existential rhythm action game”, featuring a dead astronaut released back in September.
