Final Fantasy VI Advance will release on the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan next week.

According to Nintendo's product listing, Square Enix's enhanced Game Boy Advance port will be available in the region on December 22.

There's currently no word on when or if the game will be making its way to North America or Europe, but the fact that it's coming to Japan certainly instills hope that there's a possibility.

Final Fantasy VI first released in North America as Final Fantasy III for Super Nintendo. It was later ported to Game Boy Advance as Final Fantasy VI Advance, which many regard as the best version of the game.

Earlier this week, Square Enix released Final Fantasy VI on Steam, complete with Kazuko Shibuya's "painstakingly recreated" visuals seen in the remastered version that came to mobile devices last year.
