Square Enix has unveiled some details about the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV update 3.1

In a "Letter from the Producer" video featuring game Director Naoki Yoshida and Community Manager Toshio Murouchi, the first details of the update were revealed.
A new chapter of the main story quest will be added, along with a new side quest line named Saint Endalim Scholasticate, and new Vanu Vanu beast tribe quests.

Two new dungeons are being added, The Saint Mocianne Arboretum and The Pharos Sirius hard mode. Additionally, a new 24 man raid will be set in the Void Ark.

According to the Square Enix, "the airship voyage system will allow Free Companies to use their crafted airships to explore uncharted islands and fight powerful monsters, and even those who don’t have a free company will be able to use the feature from Ishgard’s Landing."

The update will also add a new weapon upgrade system "similar to the Relic weapons," and there will be updates to The Manderville Gold Saucer, a new battle mini-game called Lord of Verminion, and new cards and NPCs will be added to Triple Triad.

On top of all this, private housing will get visitor control, new crafting recipes are being added, and floating mounts will be given the ability to fly. A full breakdown of the update can be found on the Square Enix forums.

Last week it was revealed that Final Fantasy XIV now has over 5 million registered accounts. In IGN's review, we said that Final Fantasy XIV is "a great MMORPG experience on PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4."
