Ubisoft reveals that all the different side quests in its upcoming Far Cry 4 first-person shooter are all-new in terms of content, tasking players with completing all sorts of different objectives, including the rich Shangri-La missions that are the cream of the crop.

Far Cry 4 is set to implement quite a few changes to the regular franchise recipe, from a fresh protagonist called Ajay Ghale, to a new villain named Pagan Min, and a fictional setting in the form of Kyrat, which is set in the Himalayas.

Besides chronicling the adventures of the main character as he helps the rebellion against the evil dictator, the campaign will also feature plenty of different side quests and other such missions that flesh out the conflict as well as the actual open world.

Far Cry 4 has all-new side quests and adventures

According to Ubisoft's Alex Hutchinson, who talks with IGN, the Montreal team worked hard on developing new side activities for Far Cry 4, so that fans won't feel like they're just continuing the experience from 2012's Far Cry 3, only in another setting.

What's more, during certain moments in the game, players will explore the so-called Shangri-La missions, where they live out the myths of Kyrat by controlling a great warrior and his white tiger ally. These, according to the Creative Director, are similar to the hallucinations in Far Cry 3.

"All the side quests are new, and run the gamut from rescuing hostages, to eliminating Pagan’s propaganda network to hunting rare animals for Pagan Min’s former head of fashion. Shangri-La is a way for the player to explore the myths and legends of the country. It’s essentially a waking dream, but they’re just as extreme as the hallucinations in Far Cry 3," Hutchinson says.

The separation of single-player and co-op missions is seamless

What's more, Hutchinson also highlights that the game's campaign, which allows players to invite a friend and attempt most of the activities in the game as a team, is quite seamless and doesn't interfere with the main story content.

"It felt very natural to us to keep all the cinematics and immersive story elements for solo players and then provide the entire open world for co-op play. That means all the fortresses, outposts, side quests and bell towers can be completed alone or with a friend, while you don’t have to worry about missing any story while you and your friend are goofing around," he adds.

Far Cry 4 is set to appear next month for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms around the world.
