Fallout 4′s Latest Patch Improves Performance By Downgrading Visuals On PC, PS4 And Xbox One

Fallout 4′s latest patch has gone live on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. As we have reported earlier, the full patch notes are out and they include several bug fixes as well performance and optimization for all platforms. One of the specific example of optimization given is for Corvega Assembly Plant and it appears that Bethesda Softworks has optimized the game for that specific section by offering a slight visual downgrade on all platforms, including PC.

Some eagle eyed users on NeoGAF have discovered that the new Patch removes shadows from the Corvega Assembly Plant area in the game, which was notorious for its bad performance on PS4 and Xbox One. The frame rate at that location was reportedly running as low as 20 fps which results in stuttering experience for the player. You can see the removed shadows in the screenshot below.

The strange thing here is that this visual downgrade also applies to the PC version of the game, as screenshot taken by NeoGAF user Ricerocket reveals similarly removed shadows from the same location on PC.

It remains to be seen if this visual downgrade applies to just this particular location or the whole game but judging from the focus of performance improvements in this location stated in the patch notes, it could be just an specific area related performance optimization here. What’s strange though is that they have also removed the shadows from the PC version of the game as well.

Hopefully Bethesda can fix this issue in the next patch for Fallout 4 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
