Endless Space 2 players have a happy surprise today, with a free update bringing a whole host of new features to the strategic space opera. That includes new skins, new lore, and the official launch of AI modding. If you haven’t taken command yet, you’re still in luck, since the game is on sale at a steep discount in promotion of the launch.

The Renegade Fleets skins bring six new fleet looks to spice up your space crews. Those include the Sophon “Mavros,” Unfallen “Firekeepers,” Vodyani “Heretic,” Lumeris “Buccaneer,” Riftborn “Redshifted,” and Horatio “Emerald,” all of which are now available for every player.

This comes in the wake of a free weekend promotion in August, where hours played across the Endless series translated to fresh skins for players. Developer Amplitude says players got to 2.4 million hours over a target of 1 million, so now we’ve got them all to play with.

You’ll also find a new Hissho comic in your game directory, and this update marks the end of the AI modding beta. Those tools will let modders modify (as they do) the workings of rival AI, changing the experience in a variety of ways and allowing much more granular ways of adjusting the game’s difficulty.
