The upcoming RPG will impress PS4 and Xbox One users

BioWare confirms that its upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition role-playing game looks great across all new consoles, in the form of PS4 and Xbox One, despite performance differences. What's more, the studio emphasizes that it's not even close to maximizing the power of the two devices.

Dragon Age: Inquisition debuts next month, and developer BioWare talked about its performance figures a few weeks ago, confirming that the new RPG ran at 1080p on the PS4 and 900p on the Xbox One. It also added that the team was trying to maximize the current potential of each platform, instead of going on the more controversial route and equaling the performance on both devices.

The studio wanted to offer all the details to fans

Now, BioWare's Aaryn Flynn has talked with VentureBeat a bit about the recent statement and how the studio just wanted to offer all the necessary information to fans about the game's performance on different platforms so that they could make an informed decision.

"It started because we’d seen what we thought was interpreted as misinformation from viewers of the live stream we did. Based on that, we said, 'Well, it’s important to get the information out there so players can understand reality when they’re considering a pre-order, or if they’ve already preordered Dragon Age.' We wanted to be very clear."

Inquisition looks great on all platforms

According to Flynn, fans appreciated the clarity, but he also emphasizes that the game is going to look impressive on all platforms. He also adds that, while BioWare maximized the current potential of the PS4 and Xbox One, the studio is still far from taking advantage of all their power.

"The important thing to remember is that Dragon Age looks stunning on all the platforms it’s on. We’re not even close to the maximized potential of either system yet. It’s just around what we can do now. Once you get Dragon Age, you’re in for an amazing experience regardless."

The developer also emphasizes that both new consoles have allowed the team to add all sorts of great enhancements to the regular game, both in terms of mechanics but also subtler ones relating to the world and its characters.

"The game runs really amazingly on the new generation of consoles. It’s remarkable, just how much we can push them and how much they do with everything from the density of the vegetation in the world to the subtle movements in things to draw distances. It’s a mix of both technical improvements and then translating those technical improvements into valuable artistic improvements. The number of characters on the screen — all of that kind of stuff."

Dragon Age: Inquisition is set to debut on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms around the world on November 18 in North America and November 21 in Europe and the rest of the world.
