One of the biggest changes that Bungie is planning to make to its shooter Destiny in the coming The Taken King expansion is to drop the Light Levels as the way for Guardians to hit the level cap, allowing players to simply focus on classic experience points.

The company seems to be interested in offering a simpler set of mechanics for gamers to make it easier for them to get through the progression level and see everything the title has to offer.

David Dague, aka Deej, the leading community manager at the studio, tells IGN that the Light Levels are not entirely abandoned and that they will always have a place in the Destiny experience.

Once The Taken King arrives, they will be employed to offer a quick look at the combined attack and defense values for one Guardian and to compare them with the recommended levels for the various missions in the shooter.

The equipment that each character will need to be adapted to the requirements of each situation in order for Guardians to get the best results.

For The Taken King Bungie is also offering faster level progression for gamers who start off the further way from the cap but the company has not yet decided on the minimum level required for each new mission.

The Taken King comes alongside a massive 2.0 update

Bungie is making the expansion the biggest content drop for the shooter since it was introduced last year and alongside the mechanical changes it plans to offer a big new dreadnought area to explore, more enemies to take out and a huge raid.

Destiny is also set to get access to a 2.0 update a few days before The Taken King arrives, which will offer a lot of tweaks to already existing features and will eliminate some of the problems the community has been reporting.

A big balance patch for the weapons included in the shooter is also coming, designed to tweak some of the base stats and to make sure that the community uses more of the exotics in the various game modes.

The Taken King for Destiny will be launched on September 15 on all platforms and will offer some exclusive content for those who play on PlayStation branded devices.
