The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation 4 and the development team at Bungie are announcing that gamers who are using the new home console can now download an official trial for the very successful Destiny and play it to test out the core mechanics, with the resulting Guardian then ready to be imported into the full version of the title once it is bought.

The announcement comes from the official PlayStation Twitter account, and depending on where in the world gamers are, they might have to wait for a few days before they get access to the trial.

The move is important because it opens up the Destiny experience to a wider number of potential players and makes sure that they get a clear idea of what the social shooter has to offer before they spend money on it.

The official description on the PS Store page states, “Personalize and upgrade every aspect of how you look and fight with a nearly limitless combination of armor, weapons, and visual customizations. Take your upgraded character into every mode, including campaign, cooperative, social, public, and competitive multiplayer.”

At the moment, the developers at Bungie are focusing on putting the final touches on the first full expansion for the video game, which is called The Dark Below and will be offered on December 9, with gamers set to get access to a new set of environments to explore and more raids to play for high-level rewards.

Destiny and the PlayStation 4 link

It’s unclear at the moment whether there are plans to offer a similar trial period on the Xbox One version of Destiny, but it is unlikely that such a move will happen.

Since the game was announced, Sony has sought to associate it with the PlayStation 4 and has gone so far as to force Microsoft to close down an advertising page which linked its own home console with the social shooter.

Destiny has been selling well since launch and Activision has said that the attention that it has attracted from gamers might actually result in smaller sales for its other big fall release, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The Bungie team says that it has long-term plans for the universe it has created and wants to make sure that gamers remain interested in the long term.

Currently, a new version of the Iron Banner event is running until November 24.
