Bungie has released a selection of new Destiny images, including screencaps and original concept art for the upcoming expansion, The Taken King.
The Dreadnaught, a brand new playable environment rolling out with the release of The Taken King, is home of the Hive enemy class. It not only provides a setting for the upcoming campaign expansion, but will also provide a new environment for Patrol missions and public events, too.
"Conceptually, we’ve dreamed of facing the Hive on their own ground for a long time," writes community manager, DeeJ, on this week's update. "With the development of Destiny: The Taken King, we’ve had the chance to fully realize the Dreadnaught."
"It was important to us that you would feel the scale as you moved through the hulls of the Dreadnaught," added senior artist, Andrew Hopps, "never sure about what to expect as large spaces condensed to claustrophobic tunnels before revealing entirely new areas of the ship. A sense of wonder about the unknown is what drove a lot of the spatial design."
The update draws comparisons between the developer's initial concept art, and the final in-game presentation.

"It was an incredibly fun challenge to find the right balance between a mysterious tomb ship and the flagship for the Taken fleet - to capture the idea of this unfathomable threat, a monstrous spaceship captained by the Taken King, yet filled with vast caverns and unknown passages," added Hopps. "I can't wait for players to explore and discover all of its secrets."
Bungie has also unveiled the new strike boss, Darkblade, who you'll face in a Strike aboard the Dreadnaught.
Bungie intends to livestream the "depths of this enemy liar" before The Taken King releases on September 15.
Bungie recently offered fans a sneak preview of the weapons in upcoming Destiny expansion The Taken King, which features the largest armory seen since the game's original release.
