Destiny: The Taken King PS4 Bundle Available for Pre-Order Now
During Bungie Day a few weeks ago, Destiny fans got a head full of fresh information regarding the action-RPG. For instance, the developers particularly highlighted the Year 1 Rewards Program for dedicated players. Even though fans seemed pleased with the majority of the celebration surrounding Destiny, a lot of people went to bed disappointed that night. For instance, most of the self-proclaimed Guardians were sad to find out that there wasn’t a lot of focus put on the title’s highly anticipated expansion known as The Taken King.
While Bungie didn’t tip their hand too much at that point in time, the company did reveal their partnership with Sony to release a limited edition The Taken King PlayStation 4 console bundle in September. Now it’s been announced that pre-orders for Destiny‘s collectible PS4 package are officially open and available for $399.99 in preparation for its launch on September 15, 2015.
For the most part, the Taken King–themed PS4 offer has been constructed to get non-initiated gamers in on the action with everything they would need to get started in the Destiny universe. With its inclusion of a sleek-looking white colored console tattooed with a gold-tinted galaxy map that features a Guardians crest and the game’s logo, it’s obvious Bungie is attempting to set the system apart stylistically from Sony’s other exclusive PS4 bundles. However, the system comes loaded with a 500 GB hard drive, which is somewhat of a decent amount of memory for today’s next-gen titles, but not enough to make it even more unique.
Additionally, the bundle includes a physical copy of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, which comes with Destiny, Expansion I, Expansion II, and the forthcoming expansion of The Taken King. Not only will players get content from an actual disc, but they will also receive the Digital Collector’s Edition, which has three exotic Guardian class items with XP bonuses, three class specific emotes, three armor shaders, as well as the early access Hakke weapons pack.
At a glance, the bundle looks pretty nifty, but it’s arguable that a lot of what Bungie is offering with this package isn’t all that remarkable. For instance, as previously noted, the console’s incorporation of 500 GB worth of memory will probably get eaten up pretty quickly, especially if Destiny fans decide to stick with their Guardians for the next 10 years of expansions and updates. Furthermore, it should also be said that most of the game’s players are probably already happy with their current console, and will more than likely opt to buy The Taken King expansion as a standalone for $40.
What do you think about Sony and Bungie’s collaboration on the Destiny PS4? Does the inclusion of a physical copy of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition and the game’s Digital Collector’s Edition give you extra incentive to buy it? Also, is the hard drive even big enough to warrant such a hefty price tag?
Destiny is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, while the game’s The Taken King expansion and aforementioned PS4 Bundle drops on September 15, 2015.
