Bungie reveals a few more details about the upcoming The Dark Below expansion for Destiny, which is set to appear in the near future and introduce a variety of new missions, activities, gear, as well as an increase in the level cap from 30 to 32.

Destiny launched back in early September, and while millions of fans were looking forward to the new first-person shooter experience, many came away disappointed after experiencing the actual title, due to the repetitive gameplay, lackluster story, and many other things.

Still, for those that stuck with the experience, developer Bungie has rolled out quite a few updates, not to mention different in-game events that brought forth powerful gear as well as new adventures for players to go on.

In the near future, the first premium expansion for Destiny is set to go live, in the form of The Dark Below, which was officially presented earlier this week.

New details about the expansion are now available

Now, in the latest weekly blog post, Bungie confirms some more details about the central theme, the story missions, and how they work.

First up, the main theme is the battle against Crota, a dark god for the Hive faction, who's being summoned as part of a complex ritual that takes place on both Earth and the Moon locations. There will be three story-based missions in total, not to mention the all-new quests, a strike, and a raid.

"The story missions will take you into untapped spaces with brand new encounters. There’s new music, custom effects, and some serious challenges to undertake. The Strike and Raid will also feature beautiful new spaces and difficult new engagements to overcome for you and your Fireteam," Bungie explains.

The storyline is told by a new character

In order to access the new content, players must interact with a new character that's set to appear in the Tower social area called Eris. She acts as a narrator for the events and offers all sorts of great gear, according to the studio.

"Eris is a new character that appears in the Tower to serve as your guide. She has her own story to tell, and serves as the primary narrator for the Story missions. She offers her own reputation stream, unique weapon and armor rewards, as well as other item rewards for Guardians who earn her favor," the studio adds.

Destiny owners that don't buy The Dark Below will still be able to interact with Eris, although she will only give them some of her bounties to complete, instead of all the missions and adventures.

The Dark Below goes live for Destiny on December 9, across PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
