DayZ players who have signed up to the official forums are being warned to changed their login credentials, particularly if they use the same password on multiple sites.

Forum usernames, emails and passwords have been leaked following a hack which also brought down Mini DayZ, the free, browser-based game.

Though passwords were not stored in plain text, developer Bohemia Interactive strongly advises players to update their information and change passwords.

"A security incident occurred on forums.dayzgame.com recently," Bohemia said in a statement sent out to players (via Reddit). "According to our investigation all usernames, emails and passwords from forums.dayzgame.com were accessed and downloaded by hackers."

"While the passwords were not stored in plain text, but in a more secure form, it is highly recommended that if you have used the same password elsewhere you change it immediately on all applicable websites and services."

The company added that it will be replacing the current login system within the next two weeks to "mitigate similar risks in the future".
