From Software has shared some of the biggest gameplay changes that are included in the upcoming Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin role-playing experience, as opposed to the standard version of the title, emphasizing that enemies, their behavior, and their placement will be tweaked by its team.

Dark Souls 2 launched earlier this year and delivered yet another solid but challenging role-playing experience in the series, adding new enemies and new adventures, while retaining the brutal difficulty that helped make its predecessors so popular with gamers from all around the world.

Earlier this week, developer From Software and publisher Bandai Namco confirmed that they were going to debut Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, a new and improved version of the game, across PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, but also on PS4 and Xbox One, where it will feature specific improvements in terms of visuals or mechanics.

Many gameplay improvements are included

Now, Game Director Yui Tanimura has confirmed to Famitsu, via DualShockers, that quite a few revised gameplay mechanics will be present in the game, which enhance the whole experience largely because the team is no longer limited by the low power of the old consoles.

Among them is the behavior of non-playable characters, not to mention the tactics employed by the many different enemies included in the role-playing experience.

"The placement of NPCs also tends to be influenced a lot by hardware restrictions. This time we’re reviewing the placement according to the high specs. For example we can do things as increasing the number and types of enemies or relax their movement restrictions. But we’re not just randomly increasing the numbers, we’re also changing their methods of attack. In addition to that, we’re rearranging the item allocation and part of the loot," he explains.

Scholar of the First Sin acts as a Director's Cut edition

Tanimura even goes so far as to say that Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin acts more like a Director's Cut edition, as veterans who have already completed the regular one will encounter plenty of new things. More specifically, in terms of the multiplayer mode, the studio hopes to add more diversity, especially since the PS4 and Xbox One are way more powerful than the PS3 or Xbox 360.

"Even to those people that have already finished the game, we want it to feel fresh for them. This is close to what you’d call a 'Director’s Cut' version. We plan to provide more diverse situations that due to hardware restrictions we couldn’t achieve before. We’ll provide more information in the future," he adds.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin debuts in April, so you can bet that more info will be shared by From Software and Bandai Namco until then.
