Destiny is set to receive a brand new method of storytelling inside the upcoming The Dark Below expansion, in the form of quests, which are different from the regular story missions as they don't impose restrictions on how players complete them.

Bungie launched Destiny at the beginning of September, and while millions of fans were really looking forward to the new multiplayer-only first-person shooter, many were disappointed due to things like repetitive quests and the lackluster story.

Since then, Bungie has tried to improve the whole game by rolling out patches, not to mention different in-game events that offered fresh rewards and challenges.

The Dark Below adds quests besides missions

The first major expansion was presented to the world earlier this week, and now, on the official blog, Bungie goes in-depth about the all-new quests that are included in the upcoming add-on.

As opposed to the regular missions, quests will deliver their content via multiple goals that ultimately lead up to a reward. While they may be similar to the Exotic Bounties already present in the game, the new quests don't force players to complete them solo, without their friends.

"Quests are a new storytelling mechanism that we're using in the Dark Below. They are multistage tasks that culminate in a reward, similar to the Exotic Bounties you may have experienced. Unlike Exotic Bounties, the Quests in the Dark Below can be completed by players who are solely focused on the cooperative story content of The Dark Below," Bungie explains.

The studio exemplifies its statements by saying that one potential quest can offer players certain tasks to complete while culminating with the Will of Crota strike activity, which is included in the new expansion. Another quest can just task players with destroying Hive camps on Earth in order to reduce the threat of that faction.

Bungie is experimenting with the new quests

The studio emphasizes that the new quests are still in their early stages but they serve as a solution to help players have more fun and get more rewards in Destiny.

"This new way of storytelling in Destiny is a bit experimental in nature. We’ve seen players spending a lot of time in the Tower, and we’ve heard loud and clear that players would like more unique gear and additional Bounties."

Destiny is set to receive its The Dark Below expansion on December 9 worldwide for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. You can expect to hear more about it as we get closer to its release date.
