The Club Nintendo website crashed today, presumably under the influx of gamers trying to redeem their free game with the purchase of Mario Kart 8. Users (myself included) are reporting sluggish loading, connectivity issues, error messages, and general instability. Some users are even reporting being able to redeem their MK8 copies for two games.

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that gamers who purchased a copy of Mario Kart 8 (physical or digital) would receive a free copy of Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. 2, The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD, or Wii Party U. The offer, which took effect today with the launch of Mario Kart 8, will run through July 31st. So, if you can’t redeem your free game now, there’s no rush.

Luckily, Mario Kart 8 has avoided any such server issues, and the game’s online multiplayer appears to be running smoothly.
