It came from space and ate our brains from Triangle Studios is a top-down arena-style shooter filled to bursting with bright colors, fun weapons, and plenty of aliens to destroy. This genre isn't new - Ever since Smash TV debuted in 1990, not much has been done to reinvent the wheel, and this game doesn't try to. It does what it does very well.

The plot of It came from space and ate our brains is simple: you play as a balding, blocky, Minecraft-esque guy named Jerry. The world has been completely overrun by neon brain-slurping aliens. Most of humanity has seemingly been wiped out. Armed with a flashlight and a pistol, you set out on your mission to eradicate the brain-eating alien menace - or at least to prevent them from getting to him, too. Not much is known about Jerry's past, but he can handle a variety of weapons like a champ.

Graphics-wise, this game is great for what it is. It came from space and ate our brains doesn't take itself seriously, and that's part of the appeal. This game feels like Minecraft or Roblox took a stroll through Smash TV during a rave. If you like bright, flashy weapon effects, this is an indie game that brings that to the table - a perfect contrast to the at times rather dark and dismal environments you encounter. The music that accompanies the game is simple yet oddly catchy, one of the many factors that will keep you glued to your seat as you attempt to survive the onslaught of alien baddies.

It came from space and ate our brains gameplay is addictive. It's very easy to start playing and realize that hours have passed. You start the game with a pistol but can eventually unlock rocket launchers, shotguns, plasma guns, and lasers. Each weapon can be upgraded to increasingly deadly forms. There isn't a lot of weapon variety, but the six the game includes are a lot of fun. Along the way, you'll find turrets, massive laser beams, and mines to blast your brain-gulping foes to smithereens - and, of course, healing and protective items to keep the alien menace from getting to your delicious brain. You'll find multiple different difficulty levels ranging from Easy to Insane -- and Insane truly is insane if you're seeking a challenge. If you want your friends to join in the fun, up to four-player co-op is available. You can play with a keyboard or controller, but controller aiming can be rather clunky when compared to a mouse.

If you're looking for a game with a lot of depth, It came from space and ate our brains is not that. But it's not meant to be. It's a simple, fun time you can experience by yourself and with your friends. It has numerous addictive gameplay elements that will keep you coming back for more. Unfortunately, that has its limits and you will eventually become bored with it. However, for the price, It came from space and ate our brains gives you a lot, especially when compared to many indie games. If you like top-down horror-style arena shooters, this is something you'll want to grab.

It came from space and ate our brains releases January 28, 2020 on PC, Nintendo Switch, and later for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
