The development team at Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision might have released a new live action trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which features some impressive action as gamers get to see how the future of combat looks on the streets of Lagos, but the biggest reveal of the day is that the first-person shooter is getting a zombie mode.

A video which has since been taken down from all hosts shows characters from the title as they try to escape an undead assault which takes place in a location that seems to be the Riot map that’s part of the multiplayer side of the game.

Sources are saying that the footage plays after the player manages to survive a bonus zombie round in the Exo Survival mode of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, with the core mechanics similar to the experience created by Treyarch for previous titles in the series.

A message is then shown to the player and they can then return to the mode they were playing.

Glen Schofield, one of the leaders of Sledgehammer Games, has all but confirmed the information when he talked on his official Twitter account about the leak and about the way the developers feel about it.

Other aspects of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare were revealed by sources before they were officially announced and the developers said they were disappointed that gamers found out about them before launch, which eliminated the surprise factor.

Zombies have a long Call of Duty history

The undead have a long history in Call of Duty, with their first appearance coming in World at War, where players needed to work together in order to stop hordes of them from taking over a location, before appearing in the Black Ops continuity.

In the Extinction mode, which was featured in last year’s Ghosts, the zombie threat was replaced by aliens.

Sledgehammer Games is not saying why it has chosen to work with undead rather than with another kind of threat, but they are probably aiming to appeal to the nostalgia of gamers.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be launched on November 4 on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and last-gen consoles, and a Day Zero Edition offers access to the shooter one day earlier and also delivers double experience for 24 hours.

A Season Pass is also offered for the title and might include more zombie-based content.
