In this week's Bungie Weekly Update, the Destiny team addressed several of the bigger events happening to the game, including giving some insight into the process that went into creating the upcoming Crimson Days event.

Today between 1 and 3 pm PT, Bungie will be gathering info "on a third round of changes" in Iron Banner's matchmaking.

"This week at Bungie we’re fine-tuning the Crucible," Bungie community manager David "DeeJ" Dague wrote on the game's official blog. According to Dague, Bungie has been gathering data to actively thwart lag issues "setting the table for some good, clean fights." On 2 separate occasions, Bungie rolled out matchmaking tweaks to the matchmaking engine previous to today's third round.

Bungie also has a page dedicated to Valentine's Day themed Crimson Days, which begins February 9. Dague spoke with senior designer Leif Johansen, who said the event was designed to be a "small, fun PvP activity" that evokes feelings of that most romantic of holidays, Valentine's Day.

"What features would you build into a competitive shooter experience to provide a metaphor for going on dates, relationships, and love?" Johansen said, speaking of the design challenges inherent in making love from war.

Crimson Days will see the opening of a "Fireteam-Only 2v2 Elimination playlist," one in which players get a "significant buff" while their teammate is dead. Johansen hopes the event will be defined by needing "to ask someone to be your Guardian Valentine and being filled with angry vengeance when they get killed."

Recently, Bungie studio president Harold Ryan stepped down from his role. Pete Parsons, Bungie's long-time COO, has been appointed CEO of the company.
