Shortly after unveiling details on the next DLC for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, 2K announced that players who own the base game will also receive a new mission called “Handsome AI.”

According to developers, the new mission will be available on December 16, the same date Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and The Holodome Onslaught DLC are set for release as well.

However, it’s unclear whether the mission will be included in any of the new content that will go live on that day, or it will be a completely separate download. 2K is pretty vague about that, but they say that once players download “the newest update” for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, they should have the “Handsome AI” mission available to them.

In order to play this mission, Borderlands players will have to head to the Hyperion Hub of Heroism and talk to Nakayama who will give them the Handsome AI mission.

It’s perfectly alright not to unveil more details on the mission to avoid any spoilers, but it’s also quite alright to know that 2K stated the mission is meant to shed some light on Nakayama’s “plans to immortalize everybody’s favorite Hyperion CEO using high-tech artificial intelligence that could change things on Pandora.”

The Handsome AI mission is supposed to offer more details on Handsome Jack

Basically, the new mission to be included in the Pre-Sequel will offer some insight into Tales from the Borderlands. Those who played both games know that Handsome Jack is dead in the latter and very much alive in the former.

Even though the launch trailer for Tales from the Borderlands had a hologram of Handsome Jack briefly appearing, developers were pretty clear that he is dead and he will not be coming back.

Since then, many fans assumed that Handsome Jack may have “imbued” his conscience into an AI (artificial intelligence) that is now appearing in Tales from the Borderlands.

That probably led to many discussions, which may come to an end on December 16, once the “Handsome AI” mission goes live. For the time being, it’s hard to tell for sure to what extent 2K and Gearbox are determined to reveal the story behind a major character appearing in many of the Borderlands series games.

Keep in mind that while the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode will be available for free, you will have to pay $9.99 (€9.99) for the Holodome Pack.
