Blizzard Entertainment is making some significant changes to the base Starcraft 2 formula in the upcoming Legacy of the Void expansion, and the developer has released a nice video outlining how Terran will be impacted.

Adept at putting marines in big powerful combat suits, the Terran will get some new front line firepower, in the form of the Herc, a lumbering Barracks unit that can grapple onto targets at range in order to get up close and personal.

The Herc is best used at rapidly taking out zerglings and banelings, due to its splash damage attack, but is vulnerable against larger organic units, and has no air attack. Their high health, light armor, and special attack versus mechanical units also makes them a good choice against heavier Protoss units.

The Cyclone is a very mobile ranged unit that focuses on single-target damage and is able to dish out the pain while moving. The Cyclone’s speed and unique ability make it a perfect choice for chasing down enemy units, and a difficult adversary to counter without some form of crowd control or gap-closer.

The Cyclone is best used for early game dominance, as it is able to kite a lot of enemy units successfully, but it’s also very vulnerable to more concerted attacks.

Old dogs do learn new tricks

If you thought that the Siege Tank was trouble before Legacy of the Void, then think again. Dropships will be able to pick up and drop Siege Tanks while in Siege Mode, enabling Terran players to deploy destruction at range much more efficiently.

The Thor will be able to repair himself to full health all by his lonesome, without needing any assistance. The only caveat will be that it has to power down for the duration, so it won’t be able to move or attack while the ability is activated.

In any case, the option to fully repair your heaviest unit after each successful confrontation, in a manner of seconds, is still nothing to scoff at.

Banshees will get a speed upgrade that will enable players to micro them more effectively, being able to outrun mobile detection units.

The Battlecruiser, the ultimate Terran behemoth, will be able to teleport anywhere on the map, without requiring vision of the new location. Using the ability will require a lot of energy, so you won’t be able to use it very often, but when you do, you’ll be able to mount surprise attacks or reinforce your defenses in a manner of seconds.
