KOTRC: Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mains

Anybody who had visited Link-Cable over the course of the entire year will know that we were quite hyped for Nintendo’s newest entry to the Smash franchise in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and even after its release, we still haven’t dialed down our enthusiasm for the game. With a variety of LC Loves articles, KOTRC, Top 10‘s, Editorials and even a Twitch stream that were all dedicated to the game, we’ve covered this new installment to the very last bit, but one thing we haven’t discussed yet after getting our hands on the new title is who do we use as our mains when playing Smash until now. Here is yet another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate article all on which characters we chose to main.

    Jacob S. – Dark Samus

During my time with both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, I decided to go ahead and try and play with Samus with a variety of success. Although she wasn’t my main, I still found that I was still able to be a competent player with the space bounty hunter, but I still had my few complaints with how she handled, most notably how stagnant her movements were. While this was improved upon greatly in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, her echo fighter in Dark Samus plays far quicker fluid than her original counterpart. With more fluid movement and easier to control smash attacks, Dark Samus is the improved version of Samus that I have been wishing for so many years now.

    Alex S. – Inkling

The very first character revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate turned out to be my favorite of the bunch. The Inklings (I’m partial to the purple-haired, girl one) allow for a fresh way to play that game, mixing speed and strategy in a way that no other quite matches. Historically I’ve liked fast characters (mained Sheik in Melee and Sonic in Brawl) but moved to sword fighters in Smash 3DS / Wii U (Toon Link / Shulk / Lucina were my trio) though Inkling has brought me right back to fast-hitting, aggressive style I preferred from the older titles. BOOOYAH.

    Zahi A.R. – Samus & Snake

I am a firm believer of trying out multiple characters and being good if not okay with all of them. I believe the best way to fight your opponents’ mains is to have a basic knowledge of all characters. But my two Super Smash Bros. Ultimate mains would have to be Snake and Samus. Samus has been my main since the good old days of the N64 and Snake since Brawl. I was crushed not to see him return in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U but not that he’s back in Ultimate I couldn’t be happier. Snake and Samus are projectile based characters controlling the battlefield with mines, explosives, C4, bombs and much more, but up close and personal they’re equally dangerous. I’m excited to try the new heroes of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and get my hands on maining some new blood.

    Kurtis G. – King K. Rool

I have chosen King K. Rool as my main for Smash Bros. Ultimate because of the type of style I intend to play. I will not be trying to play competitively or even try to keep up with Alex and his Inkling. What I do intend on doing, is having an extremely fun time layering on the cheese and frustrating my friends of similar skill to me. King K. Rool hits hard, but most importantly against the average player, his edge guard using his side-b blunderbuss is incredibly insane, and fun (for me)!

There goes yet another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate article and it certainly won’t be the last. For now, we want to hear who do you main in Nintendo’s biggest compilation title. Did you master a newcomer or prefer a classic such as Mario or Link? Let us know in the comment section below and as always, stay tuned for more great things on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and all other things gaming right here at Link-Cable.
