Plus a new mod clearinghouse and footage of Skyrim for Nintendo Switch.

LOS ANGELES—In a quick and to-the-point presentation before the start of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Bethesda Softworks showed off a wide array of new titles in familiar franchises.

The presentation started with a look at gameplay for Bethesda's first two virtual reality titles. Doom VFR welcomed players to the "UAC," where it looked like they could build monsters with a creation kit before firing on them with a variety of first-person weaponry. A quick sidestep motion was shown off, as well as the now-familiar teleportation-based VR movement system.

Fallout 4 VR was described as "a full-length open-world game with near limitless content playable entirely in VR." The scenery and in-game elements looked pulled directly from the non-VR version of the game, complete with a Pip-Boy computer you can bring up on your virtual wrist and massive explosions from grenade launchers.

Building off of 300 million mod downloads for Fallout 4 and Skyrim, Bethesda announced Creation Club, a new, more integrated in-game modding clearinghouse. The "club" promises "new weapons, armor, outfits, accessories, housing features, and gameplay enhancements" that can all be viewed, purchased with credits, and downloaded directly in the game itself. Creation Club content will be "made by Bethesda and outside developers, including community creators, working hand in hand with Bethesda."

Bethesda showed the first gameplay footage of Skyrim on Nintendo's Switch, which looked pretty similar to existing versions of the game. The standout new feature was the ability to scan Amiibo on the system to unlock Link's signature sword and outfit in the game. The footage also showed a player waving Joy-Cons around to pull off certain game controls, like drawing a sword or using magic. The motions looked very subtle, however, as opposed to Wii-era waggling, and as a wholly optional feature, this could turn out to be a cool bonus—especially if Switch's "HD Rumble" kicks in simultaneously.

September will bring "a story of revenge and the ultimate assassination" in the Dishonored universe. The "Death of the Outsider" DLC for Dishonored 2 will take our protagonists Daud and Billie Lurk (from Dishonored's Knife of Dunwall DLC) on a mission to take out "the black-eyed bastard responsible for all the chaos" as Daud put it in some slick and action-packed pre-rendered footage.

The Evil Within 2 was easily the most dreamlike presentation at Bethesda's E3 show, with a pre-rendered trailer showing protagonist Sebastian stumbling through a fantastical world to the strains of an "Ordinary World" cover. A motif of human-like figures encased in milky-white liquid pops up repeatedly until a dead-eyed child gets lit on fire amid a horde of zombie-like antagonists. Put the kids to bed before playing this one starting October 13.

The presentation finished with an extended look at Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, which led off with riffs on classic '50s and '60s TV in a German-controlled America. From there, we transition to BJ Blazcowicz trying to stir up a new American revolution against the occupying Germans, bringing up a telescoping metal helmet to hold off bullets from suspicious allies. Scenes showed BJ struggling with his robotic arm and blowing fire all over New Orleans, too.

We'll have to see how well the stunning in-game footage we saw scales to current-gen consoles, as it was full of incredible volumetric fire effects and elaborate, explosive gunfights. The game will be here October 27, finishing up a presentation where Bethesda says "everything you see here will be available this year."
