The latest rumor leading up to E3 2017 later next week has acclaimed video game publisher Bethesda Softworks prepping to announce a galactic RPG titled Starfield. Well known by now for such best-selling open-world action-adventure titles such as Skyrim and Fallout 4, the Rockville, Maryland based innovator has been among the top-performing names in games going on some 30-plus years now.

While the studio and publisher has previously explored the post-apocalyptic world of the Fallout franchise as well as various sprawling fantasy realms featured in The Elder Scrolls series, Bethesda has yet to truly explore territory thoroughly grounded within the realm of the science-fiction genre. Granted, the formerly cited property has imagined one certain future, but as of the studio has yet to take gamers on an intergalactic odyssey — though the latest rumor holds an announcement at E3 2017 will change that trend with the potential unveiling of Starfield.

Per a posting to 4chan, the latest rumor has Bethesda primed to officially unveil plans for an original galactic RPG in the form of Starfield. Reported to have been in development since the release of Fallout 3 all the way back in 2008, the upcoming title from Bethesda is rumored to include between five and ten distinct alien races, space travel supported by hub worlds, and perhaps most surprising of all, an interconnected in-game universe with connections to both The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.

Offering the supporting evidence that the Brotherhood of Steel was previously revealed to have created nirnroot, the 4chan rumor in questions purports that Starfield exists within a narrative timeline that places its events between those depicted in Fallout and The Elder Scrolls — with any and all logical inconsistencies explained by the latter mentioned fantasy series’ introduction of the Time Wound.

Granted, this is all pure speculation at best — and is additionally backed by some fairly complicated reasoning — but the idea of a science fiction genre production from the makers of Skyrim and Fallout 4 is definitely something to watch closely. If Starfield is in fact an actual game under development at Bethesda, then E3 2017 is slated to include a major announcement that is sure to attract a lot of attention and buzz when the video game conference gets under way later next week.
