The Pokémon Company has officially announced Shadow Mewtwo is joining Bandai Namco's Pokémon-centric fighter, Pokken Tournament.

This reveal comes hot off the heels of a surprise update that arrived for the Japanese arcade version this past weekend, in which the character was added as a boss. Now, it's been confirmed that Shadow Mewtwo will also be making its way to the upcoming Wii U version.

For a sneak peek at the new character, check out the announcement trailer below.

Original Story: A new form of Mewtwo appears to have arrived for Pokken Tournament in a surprise update, according to a leaked gameplay video showcasing the character in action.

The footage, which first surfaced on NicoNico (via NeoGAF) and requires an account to view, unveils "Dark Mewtwo" as a new boss character for the arcade version Bandai Namco's fighter.

Whether or not the fighter will end up joining the roster as a playable character or be featured in the forthcoming Wii U version remains to be seen. We've reached out to both Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for clarification.

It's possible this new form of the psychic Pokémon may appear in future games, namely the heavily-rumored Pokémon Z. Mewtwo already has both X and Y Mega Evolutions, so some have speculated this new dark form could be Mewtwo Z.

While the footage appears to be authentic, the video has yet to be released through official channels.
