The team at Nintendo in charge of the 3DS is announcing that it will introduce a new version of the handheld, with a pearl white color, on June 11, giving fans yet another options when they pick up the device.

The company is not saying whether the new color will also be introduced in North America and in Europe.

The 3DS continues to regularly top the hardware sales chart for Japan and tends to deliver solid software hits for Nintendo in the region.

Despite its long-term popularity the handheld is starting to lose steam when it comes to sales and the company might be using new colors as a way to temporary boost its popularity.

Nintendo is at the moment working on a new full range of hardware, which is named the NX, and information offered so far suggests that it will involve both a new portable device and a home console.

No information on the new tech will be offered at the upcoming E3 2015 but the company has said that it wants to deliver more details next year.

Presumably the NX will be launched in 2017 and at that point both the 3DS and the Wii U will be discontinued.
