Actress Priyanka Chopra, former star of the ABC series Quantico, is currently in talks to join the upcoming Universal film Cowboy Ninja Viking starring Chris Pratt. Cowboy Ninja Viking is slated for production this summer in Vancouver and is scheduled for release next June.

The storyline for Cowboy Ninja Viking is based on a comic of the same name created by A.J. Lieberman and Riley Rossmo that was first released by Image Comics in 2008. In the comic, a secret government organization creates agents that are called “triplets,” named as such because they’re assassins that combine the skills and personalities of three deadly warriors. The story follows Duncan, an assassin that brings together the prowess of a cowboy, ninja, and viking, as he is forced to hunt down fellow former agents. Other personas that characters take on include that of a hitman, a Navy SEAL, and some of history’s most formidable fighters. At present, Pratt is the only cast member listed for the project and seems a natural fit as he's already Star-Lord, a raptor handler, and a master builder.

According to a report from Collider, the cast list might be growing with the addition of Chopra. Chopra is in line to play Sara Nix, the psychologist who’s tasked with monitoring Pratt’s character Duncan as he hunts down other “triplets.” Reports of positive chemistry tests between Pratt and Chopra suggest that her character may also develop feelings for Duncan, which would inevitably lead to complications due to their professional relationship.

While the cast list at present is small, the project has already brought on a great deal of talent. In addition to Pratt first getting involved back in 2014, Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese drafted the original script, which has since been edited and rewritten by The Hangover Part II writer Craig Mazin, Rampage writer Ryan Engle, and Wrath of the Titans writer Dan Mazeau. Working behind the camera is director Michelle MacLaren, who is best known for having previously directed episodes of hit shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Westworld.

Chopra, for her part, recently played the villain opposite Dwayne Johnson in last summer’s Baywatch, and can next be seen on the big screen in the rom-com Isn’t It Romantic with Betty Gilpin, Liam Hemsworth, and Rebel Wilson. A star for many years in Bollywood, Chopra finally started receiving recognition stateside with her role on Quantico. While not much is known about the plot of Cowboy Ninja Viking or the extent of Chopra’s role in it, her recent work suggests that Pratt should have a co-star who’s more than up for the challenge of this eclectic adaptation.
