In record time, it looks as if both Deadpool 2 and New Mutants have finished filming ahead of their releases next year. While Fox has been able to spinoff and reboot their X-Men franchise for years, it wasn’t until Deadpool that they proved a standalone installment could be a hit. Naturally, the film was quickly given a sequel, and the upcoming movie will introduce mutants like Cable and Domino. Meanwhile, next year will also see the release of New Mutants, a teen-focused film chronicling a group of young heroes with which audiences will be larger unfamiliar.

Thanks to Deadpool 2 shooting a number of outdoor scenes this summer, we’ve had plenty of glimpses into the filming of the movie. Shots of Cable and Domino in action were preempted by costume reveals for each character. We’ve even had hints about other comic characters thanks to the set photos. Oddly, we’ve seen nothing from New Mutants despite it filming at the same time. Likely, this means the majority of the movie was filmed in a studio allowing Fox to more tightly control what’s been revealed. Now, it looks like all of that could change.

As part of the report on Drew Goddard helming X-Force, Deadline is claiming that both Deadpool 2 and New Mutants have wrapped filming. The former began shooting at the end of June, with the latter following at the beginning of July. As such, both movies have had relatively short productions, giving them more than enough time to handle post-production before they arrive in theaters next year.

For fans, the end of production for both movies means more information about the films should arrive soon. When it comes to Deadpool 2, a good deal is known already. Still, things like a synopsis, news on the villain, and a teaser shouldn’t be too far off at this point.

New Mutants, meanwhile, still has plenty up its sleeve. With a spring release date, images of the cast in costume and a teaser seem all but guaranteed in the next few weeks. After the upcoming X-Men films sat out San Diego Comic-Con, many think New York Comic Con next month may serve as the perfect venue to unveil teasers for both films. This seems especially likely for New Mutants, which will need to get the word out on its somewhat obscure characters.

With X-Force moving forward, more talk of a Gambit movie manifesting, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (also arriving next year) filming, the X-Men franchise will likely be in the news a good bit. And if Deadpool 2 and New Mutants really are done filming, they’ll be dominating the news cycle before too long.
