It's been six years since the last Wrong Turn movie, but soon, Wrong Turn 7: The Foundation will arrive to remind fans not to go to West Virginia. Well, to be fair to West Virginia, it's really only the most backwoods and remote parts of the state that the Wrong Turn movies depict as being dangerous, and logically, there probably aren't any families of murderous, deformed hillbillies lying in wait there in real life. Still, one can never be too careful about such things.

Unlike most horror franchises though, which usually try to have at least some type of consistency between installments, Wrong Turn kind of hops all over the place, with the character of Three-Finger (always played by a different actor) the only one to appear in all six films so far. Outside of the West Virginia location, each Wrong Turn tends to be noticeably different than the last, whether that be in appearance or plot. For example, Wrong Turn 4 served as a prequel to the first three, while Wrong Turn 6 was an almost entirely standalone piece with little relation to the prior entries.

With Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort getting a rather muted response from the horror community, it's probably wise that Wrong Turn 7: The Foundation will attempt to start almost from scratch and reboot the franchise, complete with original creator Alan B. McElroy back writing the script. The thing is, it's not entirely clear when the film will actually become available to watch.

Wrong Turn 7: When The Movie Could Release

In an update made to his Instagram account in late March, Wrong Turn 7: The Foundation director Mike P. Nelson revealed that the film was currently in post-production, but was experiencing understandable delays in progress due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Nelson also said that he had no updates to offer on a trailer for The Foundation arriving. It's nearly June as of this writing, and no further updates have been posted. While Wrong Turn 7 was previously slated for release sometime in 2020, that now seems a bit in doubt.

To be certain, Wrong Turn 7: The Foundation could definitely release sometime in fall or winter 2020, assuming post-production has been completed by now. If it hasn't, either due to Coronavirus or other factors, and there's significant work left to do on the project, it's possible The Foundation could end up being delayed to an early 2021 release. As of now, it's still unclear whether this reboot will play in theaters - once they finally reopen - or head straight to home video like all prior sequels. If it's the former, that may also lead to a release delay, as studios jockey for position in the coming months due to all the previously delayed films needing to come out. For that a reason, a direct to video release would make more sense. Considering how far along Wrong Turn 7 is though, it's hard to imagine it not being released by spring 2021 at the latest.
