Whoopi Goldberg shares her first reaction to the Sister Act 3 script. Released in 1992, Sister Act was a smash at the box office and solidified Goldberg's status as a Hollywood star after her Oscar-winning role in Ghost. Following the runaway success of Sister Act, the musical comedy released a sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, which featured the return of Goldberg and her fellow nuns. Back in 2018, Disney announced Sister Act 3 was officially in the works. Directed by Tom Federle, Sister Act 3 has kept major plot details under wraps.

Now, the star of the musical franchise offers an update on the sequel film's script. Making an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Goldberg reveals the latest version of the Sister Act 3 script is in. Speaking on the film's script, Goldberg expressed her approval of the story but says it still has a few more people to go through. Goldberg didn't offer an update on when filming might begin. However, she seemed satisfied with Sister Act 3's progress. Read what Goldberg said about the Sister Act 3 script below:

The script came in yesterday. I really like it, you know, but it has a whole lot of adults to go through. If they don't get in it's way, it could be pretty good.
What Sister Act 3 Could Be About

Goldberg didn't disclose pivotal Sister Act 3 details during her interview, but she invited Fallon to make a cameo appearance in the long-awaited third installment. Fallon replied, "To be in Sister Act 3? Of course, I would do that, I would do anything for you." While the invitation to appear in Sister Act 3 may not end up panning out for Fallon, it's likely the film will feature some of Hollywood's finest. Months ago, Goldberg shared her ideal casting choices to join her in Sister Act 3. These include original Sister Act star Jenifer Lewis, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, and Keke Palmer.

Sister Act 3 is expected to feature Deloris Van Cartier (Goldberg) as much more of an adult as she embarks on a new decade of her life. While the cast list for the third film has yet to be announced, it can hopefully be expected that fan-favorite nuns Mother Superior (Maggie Smith), Sister Mary Robert (Wendy Makkena), and Sister Mary Patrick (Kathy Najimy) will join Deloris. The first two Sister Act films centered around Deloris' ability to teach others through music, and the third film could center on Deloris mentoring a new character and passing the torch as they deal with relevant issues of today's generation.

Goldberg has been an advocate for Sister Act 3 for decades, and it could be the last time she plays Deloris Van Cartier. For now, it seems Goldberg is satisfied with the film's script. A release date for Sister Act 3 is unknown, but filming could begin soon. Indeed, Sister Act fans have a lot to look forward to as the iconic franchise continues to workshop a satisfying third entry with Sister Act 3.
