The best thrillers play to our sense of paranoia – a feeling that we can never completely know who to trust. Spy movies seem to have forgotten how to properly convey that sense of paranoia. However, a new trailer for Susanna White’s upcoming thriller Our Kind of Traitor has just hit the Internet, and seems to completely understand what goes into a proper espionage thriller. Check it out below to see for yourself.

In a trailer full of excitement and misdirection, Our Kind of Traitor looks like a hell of a ride. Centering on a teacher and his wife, the film follows the couple as they become drawn into a Russian mobster's plan to defect to the west. They unwittingly help the mobster by bringing information home with them, and as a result they become more and more entrenched in a major conspiracy involving officials from their own government. As the plot begins to unfold, they find themselves caught between the Russian mafia and the British Secret Service, unable to figure out which of these organizations is looking out for them, and which is out to get them.

Directed by Susanna White, Our Kind of Traitor is based upon a novel of the same name by writer John le Carré. The film, like the novel, deals with the themes of loyalty, trust, and allegiance. In many ways Our Kind of Traitor feels like the sort of movie that simply doesn’t get made anymore; it has a certain uneasy quality akin to a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie from the 1960s.

Espionage movies that look this good have become increasingly difficult to come by in recent years. Even iconic spy genres such as the James Bond and Jack Ryan series have moved away from tension generated by mystery in favor of straightforward, bombastic action. In this way, Our Kind of Traitor seems to hearken back to a golden age of spy thriller – one where things move a little slower, and the audience can never fully get comfortable.

In addition to the film’s riveting plot, Our Kind of Traitor is further aided by its all-star cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Damian Lewis, Naomie Harris, and Stellan Skarsgard. We here at CinemaBlend will bring you the latest and greatest details regarding the upcoming release of Our Kind of Traitor as they become available to us. The film will hit theaters on May 13.
