Among the many movies missing from Disney+ is Avengers: Infinity War, and it's expected to release on the new streaming service by next summer. From directors Anthony and Joe Russo, with the script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Infinity War is the first half of Marvel Studios' two-part cumulative event for The Infinity Saga. It marked the proper introduction of MCU big bad Thanos (Josh Brolin) as he actively sought all Infinity Stones to wipe out half of life in the universe in the hopes of achieving balance.

Thanos' arrival resulted in all heroes in the franchise coming together to battle him and his minions out. Sadly, they came up short, with the Mad Titan ultimately achieving his goal, resulting in a devastating plot twist that saw the death of many peole, including several MCU heroes. The film directly leads into Avengers: Endgame which is already available on Disney+.

Alongside Endgame, a slew of MCU movies are already on the new streaming platform, including the Iron Man and Captain America trilogies, the first two Thor films, and more. Meanwhile, there will be a few months' wait to enjoy Infinity War on Disney+, as well as a handful of other MCU films. Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to release on Disney+ on June 25, 2020 - that's more than a half-a-year after launch.

On the surface, it seems strange for Disney+ to include Avengers: Endgame, but not Avengers: Infinity War. But the reason behind the missing film is simply a prior agreement with Netflix, and the same applies to many - though not all - of the missing movies from the new service. Disney already held an agreement with Netflix to allow Infinity War to stream on the platform for the foreseeable future, and judging by the above Disney+ release date for Infinity War, that agreement will run out within the next few months.

In any case, with a decent library of MCU films readily available to be enjoyed on Disney+, Marvel fans will have plenty of choices to enjoy. The initial announcement only had a few MCU films debuting at launch, so objectively-speaking, 16 out of 23 movies isn't bad. Of course, two of those films - both Spider-Man installments - won't release on Disney+ due to those not being owned by Disney. But if one's really looking forward to watch Avengers: Infinity War in the comforts of their homes (granted that they don't have its Blu-ray), they can head over to Netflix where it's still available (for the time being).
