There's no shortage of TV shows based on movies in recent years, and while some were big hits right out of the gate like Lethal Weapon, others were flops. FX has a show on the way that is based on the 2014 vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, and the first trailer has released to reveal that the series will deliver as dark and hilarious a take on vampire life as the movie did. Take a look:

Can I blame an energy vampire the next time I need a coffee break in the middle of the day? The What We Do in the Shadows movie was written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Thor: Ragnarok's Taika Waititi, both of whom also starred in the film. Neither appears in the TV show, and the show clearly isn't just a straight remake of the film, which was set in New Zealand.

Instead, the show is set in Staten Island, although it will thankfully stick with the mockumentary format that made the movie so much fun. What We Do in the Shadows on FX follows vampires who have lived -- or rather, "lived" -- together for centuries.

The leader of the group is known as "Nandor the Relentless," and he's a warrior and conqueror who earned his name back during the Ottoman Empire. His Old World tactics, which he apparently applies in situations such as grocery shopping as well as in more pressing matters, don't always fit in the modern world.

Lazlo is a British vampire and a bit of a dandy with a tendency to go rogue with his love of mischief and parties. He gets a little bit too much joy out of watching Nador fail in his ventures. And then there's the seductress vampire Nadja with all of her wisdom and provocation.

Throw in Colin the energy vampire -- who I already love -- along with Nandor's familiar, Guillermo, and Nadja's friend Jenna who is suddenly confused by her craving for the flesh of the living, and What We Do in the Shadows should be a wild and hilarious ride. That said, the show isn't just going to be their shenanigans as vampires living in Stated Island.

After their dark lord drops by and reminds them of their mission to take over the New World, they must rearrange their priorities. Fortunately, a camera crew is on hand to document the whole thing.

What We Do in the Shadows will run for ten episodes. Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are on board as executive producers. The show has been in the works for quite a long time, and the wait until the premiere is coming to an end. The series will premiere on Wednesday, March 27 at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
