Batman is one of the most popular comic book characters ever created. His sidekick Robin has not faired quite as well. Having said that, it's likely only a matter of time before the boy wonder makes his presence known in the DC Extended Universe. When that happens, who should play the role? One of the earliest, and most well known, Robin's has an idea. Burt Ward thinks he should take the part.

Me! Let me tell you something. You remember when Star Trek ended, and Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner got all those Star Trek movies? They were very successful, and those guys were older. You didn't care that they were older. You loved them.

While Burt Ward's comments to ComicBook.com may be correct, that nobody minded that the cast of Star Trek had gotten older in between the series and the movies, we'd feel obligated to point out that was a long time ago. The original Batman TV series that Adam West and Burt Ward starred in together was a contemporary of Star Trek. Both series began their run in 1966 and ended within a year of each other. It's one thing to do a movie 10 years after the series went off the air, it's quite another to do it 50 years after the fact. If West and Ward and donned their masks again sometime in the late 1970s it's entirely possible that fans would have loved to have seen them again. We're not sure it would work at this point.

Having said all that, the version of Batman and Robin from the 1960s is so memorable, whether you like it or not, that we can't say we aren't interested in learning where they are now. Ben Affleck's version of Batman is an older, more experienced character, but he wouldn't hold a candle to seeing an aged Adam West Batman once again. While many people have taken the classic roles as the caped crusaders through the years, nobody is quite as permanently attached to the parts as West and Burt Ward.

The pair are back in their old roles once again in a new animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. The movie just had a brief run in theaters as part of a Fathom Events engagement and will be released on Blu-Ray next month, but is available digitally right now. There's already been a sequel announced, so it would appear that Burt Ward isn't wrong, there appears to be quite a bit of interest in seeing the aging actors as Batman and Robin again.

Would you like to see Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin again in a physical sense? How do you think they'd pull that off? Give us your ideas in the comments.
