What Kate Beckinsale Would Have Looked Like as Wonder Woman
Brand new fan art visualizes Kate Beckinsale as Wonder Woman. Unofficially the poster character for Warner Bros. and DC Films' cinematic universe, the superheroine is now brilliantly played by Gal Gadot, who debuted the role in 2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice directed by Zack Snyder. She has reprised the part two more times, both from last year's Wonder Woman (her origin story) and Justice League, with another standalone film on the way in Wonder Woman 1984. At this point, it might be difficult to imagine any other actress playing the role, but Gadot wasn't the first one to be offered the gig.
Considering that a Wonder Woman motion picture had been in pre-production for a long period of time before Patty Jenkins' iteration came out in 2017, there were several actresses that were up for the role at one point In time, including Beckinsale. And while fans will more likely never see her playing the part, a new fan art offers the opportunity to see what she would have looked like had she portrayed the iconic superhero on the big screen.
From digital artist BossLogic comes an illustration imagining what Beckinsale would have looked like as the Amazonian Goddess. Interestingly, the rendition of the actress in the image makes her look a lot like Gadot. Check out the fan art below:
Beckinsale has been open about that time that she's in talks for the role. However, when the issue was brought up again recently, her explanation about why the negotiations about her possibly bringing the superheroine to life was noticeably a lot blunter, telling Variety that "it would have been a terrible movie based on the script." While she always gave the impression that she wasn't really interested in playing a superhero in previous comments regarding the matter, this one is definitely the most straightforward she has been. And to be fair, she had every right to not want to be involved in a film she personally didn't like.
Beckinsale didn't reveal which script she read but there's a chance that the actress was referring to the generally disliked treatment written by Joss Whedon. The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron writer/director was recruited by Warner Bros. to write and direct a Wonder Woman movie back in the mid-2000s but eventually left the project due to creative differences.
Meanwhile, filming for Wonder Woman 1984 is still underway with several set photos and videos making their way online giving people a sneak peek at the sequel. Aside from Gadot returning to reprise her role as the titular character, Chris Pine is also set to return as Steve Trevor. The pair re-teams to try to contain a brand new threat in Kristen Wiig's Barbara Ann Minerva aka. Cheetah. Narcos' Pedro Pascal is also set to appear in a yet to be revealed role, as well as Insecure's Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, and Gabriella Wilde.
