Hard hats aren't really going to protect you on Jurassic World. I mean, dinosaur teeth pretty much can puncture right through whatever materials these safety lids are made of. And yet, almost every Jurassic sequel has featured folks sporting these hats, and J.A. Bayona's Jurassic World 2 won't break from tradition, according to his newest tweet announcing the first steps on this lengthy journey.

So pristine. There's a hint of a scratch on the logo of the front helmet, but basically, these guys are fresh out of the prop department. You can practically smell the paint on them. Of course, they don't stay unblemished forever. There tends to be some major mistakes made by humans in Jurassic Park sequels. Later, there's running. And screaming.

This is as good a time as any to suggest following J.A. Bayona on Twitter, as the director seems willing and able to share photos and information from the set of the as-yet-untitled Jurassic World 2 (which probably should reveal its official title sooner rather than later). We know, at the moment, that Bayona is coming off of the monumentally emotional A Monster Calls (easily one of my favorite movies of 2016). And I'm extremely excited to see what he can do in this universe. Based on his work on movies like Monster Calls and The Impossible, I was comparing Bayona to a younger Spielberg as it was. Seeing him leap into a sandbox partially created by Spielberg should mean great things.

However, at the moment, Jurassic World 2 remains a big mystery. We know that cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back for a second adventure. And B.D. Wong, who famously escaped on a helicopter near the end of Jurassic World, is due to come back (if uber-producer Frank Marshall can be believed).

After that, though, the story was open-ended enough that it's possible for Jurassic World 2 to go in almost any direction... even off of the islands that have been made famous by the movies in the series to date. The rumor consistently swirling around Jurassic World 2 is that it will involve the militarization of the concept that Owen (Chris Pratt) mastered in Jurassic World -- his ability to train dinosaurs as pets and use them as weapons (as he did when taking down the Indominus). Wong's character escaping with dino embryos suggests this will be the next step in the process, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

We have some time. Jurassic World 2 is down for a June 22, 2018 release date. And thanks to the hard hats, we have the photographic proof that production is underway.
