Sometimes justice isn't pretty. It's cold, hard, and brutal -- just like Jack Reacher. It's been a few years since we last saw Tom Cruise's badass former military detective on the silver screen, but that will soon change when Jack Reacher: Never Go Back hits theaters on October 21. A brand new clip for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back has just debuted on the web, and it features Tom Cruise breaking bones in utterly violent fashion. Check it out below and prepare to wince.

I'll be honest, as someone who sees plenty of action movies; I have a tendency to become jaded by the genre. However, that clip has me completely sold on the action and chaos of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. The scene in question follows Reacher as he sneaks his way through a military prison where Cobie Smulders' Susan Turner is being held. He follows a group of hitmen intent on taking Turner out, but leaps into action the moment they unlock her cell. Although Turner doesn't agree with Reacher's brutal tactics, she eventually chooses to join him and go on the run in order to prove her own innocence. The clip isn't super heavy on plot, but it's quite obvious that the film will very clearly feature Tom Cruise doing what Tom Cruise does best: kicking serious ass.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Jack Reacher franchise is that -- despite the fact that it's clearly a Tom Cruise action movie -- Cruise plays somewhat against type. He's become famous for his roles as charming, morally righteous good guys, and while he is certainly the protagonist of Jack Reacher, he's much more of an anti-hero than we've seen before. If Jack Reacher and Mission: Impossible's Ethan Hunt ever confronted each other in a dark alleyway, I might start worrying about Mr. Hunt's safety. Reacher is that much of a tough, dark badass.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back really feels like the type of sequel that doesn't get made anymore. The film -- Edward Zwick and Tom Cruise's first collaboration since The Last Samurai -- maintains tenuous connections to the original, while delving deeper into the history of Jack Reacher himself. When his successor in an army investigative unit (Cobie Smulders) finds herself charged with crimes she didn't commit, Reacher becomes a one-man army and goes on a mission to prove her innocence. As you can see: he punches plenty of people along the way.

If you weren't already excited for the upcoming release of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, then this fight scene should definitely get your blood pumping. CinemaBlend will bring you more information related to the sequel as new details become available to us. Make sure to check out Never Go Back when it hits theaters on October 21.
