One of the more anticipated tentpoles arriving in the first quarter of 2016 (not counting that intimate drama that Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are starring in) is Warcraft, which is Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones’ film adaptation of the popular game property. Principal photography on the movie has already been completed, since the project will require extensive post-production work (somewhere in the vicinity of 20 months‘ worth) in order to properly realize its fantasy world setting and characters on the big screen.

Teasers for Warcraft have been shown at the International Comic-Con for the past two years, but today at the 2014 Blizzard Entertainment’s BlizzCon gaming convention in Anaheim, California, Legendary Pictures, Atlas Entertainment, and Blizzard Entertainment (along with distributing partner Universal Pictures) offered those fans in attendance a special treat: official casting and character details from Jones’ film, along with artwork promoting the warring clans in the movie.

Jones, who has appeared at BlizzCon in the past, was present at Warcraft‘s 2014 panel along with Chris Metzen (Blizzard Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Story and Franchise Development), the film’s Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Bill Westenhofer (Life of Pi), and Warcraft actor Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim).

Kazinsky’s Warcraft costars officially include Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger), Ben Foster (Lone Survivor), Ben Schnetzer (The Book Thief), Ruth Negga (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Paul Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), Toby Kebbel (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Clancy Brown (Sleepy Hollow), and Daniel Wu (The Man with the Iron Fists).

Here are the list of characters (and their official descriptions) these actors will playing in the film; they are divided into the two opposing armies (which Warcraft fans will recognize), known as the Alliance and the Horde.

THE ALLIANCE

Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel) - The lead protagonist for the Alliance, Lothar is a war hero who has sacrificed everything to keep the people of Azeroth safe.

King Llane Wrynn (Dominic Cooper) - King Llane is the leader of the Alliance city of Stormwind and a beacon of hope to its people in a time of darkness.

Medivh (Ben Foster) - Known as ‘the Guardian,’ Medivh is a mysterious and reclusive protector who wields formidable power.

Khadgar (Ben Schnetzer) - Khadgar is a gifted young mage, embarking on a daring search for the truth.

Lady Taria (Ruth Negga) - Taria is the royal Queen of Stormwind, King Llane’s great love and most trusted counsel.

Garona (Paula Patton) - Caught between the Alliance and the Horde, Garona is a strong-willed survivor who must decide where her true loyalty lies.

THE HORDE

Durotan (Toby Kebbel) - The lead protagonist for the Horde, Durotan is the noble Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan, battling to save his people and his family from extinction.

Orgrim (Rob Kazinsky) - Orgrim is Durotan’s right hand and a brave warrior destined to wield the Doomhammer: a weapon of orc legend.

Blackhand (Clancy Brown) - Known as ‘The Destroyer’, Blackhand is one of orc-kind’s most fearsome and titanic warchiefs.

Gul’Dan (Daniel Wu) - Gul’dan is a supreme orc ruler, fueled by a dark magic that even he cannot control.

Jones revised the original Warcraft script draft penned by Charles Leavitt; the latter also co-wrote the upcoming Seventh Son film adaptation for Legendary Pictures. It would appear that previous reports asserting that the film is drawing inspiration in no small amount from the earlier installments in the original Warcraft game property are at least partially accurate, and the screenplay has been praised by many an actor in the past (including those who aren’t even appearing in the film).

Will Warcraft become the next big fantasy epic cinematic franchise, especially now that Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth movie saga is drawing to a close? Only time will tell…

Warcraft opens in U.S. theaters on March 11th, 2016.
