The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 debuted with an estimated $101 million at the domestic box office this weekend, a mighty bow that was nevertheless the franchise's lowest opening. Its worldwide weekend total is projected at $247 million.

The franchise's biggest domestic opening was Catching Fire ($158.1 million), followed by The Hunger Games ($152.5 million), and Mockingjay, Part 1 ($121.9 million).

And after two weeks atop the North American box office, SPECTRE dropped to second place. The 24th James Bond film has thus far grossed $153.7 million domestically and has a worldwide cume of $677.8 million.


Seth Rogen's holiday comedy The Night Before proved a disappointment, opening in fourth place with an estimated $10.1 million, while the Julia Roberts thriller Secret in Their Eyes opened in fifth place with $6.6 million.

As THR points out, that's "the worst opening of Roberts' career for a film opening in more than 2,000 theaters, not accounting for inflation. (That excludes animated film The Ant Bully.)"
